About

The foundation stone for Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute was laid by our Guruji, Yogacharya B. K. S. Iyengar, and his wife Ramamani in 1973. Sadly, Smt. Ramamani passed away before the construction could be completed. When the Institute was opened in 1975, Guruji dedicated it to her memory.

The Institute was run by Guruji, his daughter Geeta, and son Prashant. Classes have been held regularly at the Institute — Asana and Pranayama classes at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, remedial classes, and classes for children. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most important centers of Yoga.

Guruji left this world on 20th August 2014, at the age of 96. Geetaji departed this world on 16th December 2018, just a couple of days after concluding Guruji’s centenary celebrations.

“Live happily, and die majestically.”

— B. K. S. Iyengar
